Vintage Crackle Paint Wonderful Romance

Vintage Crackle Paint Wonderful Romance

Creating my vintage crackle paint Wonderful Romance card was a joy. I love the vintage look and the Wonderful Romance bundle is quickly becoming one of my favorites.  Sure hope it carries over, but in case it doesn’t you should scoop it up during Sale-a-Bration and earn a freebie.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Vintage Crackle Paint Wonderful Romance, Stampin' Up!

First off, creating that background is easy. I started off with a 3 3/4″ x 5″ piece of Whisper White cardstock. Heat embossing always adds the WOW factor to any project. This one is done in Copper with that gorgeous Crackle Paint background stamp. Then by sponging on color, Crumb Cake and Balmy Blue, I achieved the vintage crackle paint look.

If you don’t have markers or blends, no worries. We almost always collect our ink pads first. To color this gorgeous image from Wonderful Romance, I used a blender pen with my ink pads. There are so many ways to add color. Where there’s a will, there’s a way!

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Vintage Crackle Paint Wonderful Romance, Stampin' Up!

To continue with my vintage crackle paint look, I cut a doily in Balmy Blue using the Doily Builder die.  Love that set so much, I’ll be offering the bundle in my WOW Class to GO! in April. Stay tuned for more info!

Embossing the sentiment in copper and adding those sweet little copper sprigs really made the sentiment pop. And oh, did you see that we now have Rectangle Stitched Framelits? I love them!!!

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Vintage Crackle Paint Wonderful Romance, Stampin' Up!

I guess you can tell I really like the Crackle Paint background stamp. I think this might be the fourth project I’ve used it in so far.  And I have to say each one has a different look and feel. Are you a visual learner? I sure am. If so, sit back and relax, I’ve got a FREE video tutorial for you.

Polished Stone Technique Climbing Roses

Polished Stone Technique Climbing Roses

Have you heard of the Polished Stone Technique? It’s an oldie, but goodie and so quick and easy you’ll want to crate a whole batch of backgrounds for your next card making session.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Polished Stone Technique, Climbing Roses, Stampin' Up!

My color combo is Highland Heather, Pool Party and Blackberry Bliss.  By heat embossing the gorgeous floral image from the Climbing Roses set, it took this card to the next level. Because each card is different, you’ll really have fun with this technique.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Polished Stone Technique, Climbing Roses, Stampin' Up!

Why is it called polished stone? Doesn’t the finished product remind you of a slab of marble? I think so. And this is yet another way of “coloring” that big floral image without using markers, making it very quick and easy.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Polished Stone Technique, Climbing Roses, Stampin' Up!

I love finishing off the inside of my cards.  The trellis die cut was trimmed and used both on the front and inside of the card. That’s the perfect way to use up every smidge of your die cuts.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Polished Stone Technique, Climbing Roses, Stampin' Up!

I hope you can see the sparkle on both the butterfly element and the leaves under that lovely little bow.  I used Wink of Stella to add just the right amount of bling.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Polished Stone Technique, Climbing Roses, Stampin' Up!

The little detail on the sentiment was done with a 1/2″ circle punch.  You can use that little technique on any size sentiment. Would you like to learn more about that and the polished stone technique?  I’ve filmed a video tutorial to show you how.

Here’s how the magic happens.

  • Card Base – Blackberry Bliss CS – 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″
  • Mat – Pool Party CS – 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Polished Stone Mat – Glossy White CS – 3 3/4″ x 5″
  • Trellis Die Cut – Blackberry Bliss CS – 2 1/2″ x 5″
  • Sentiment – Whisper White CS – 2 1/4″ x 1″

Climbing Roses with Mother of Pearl Technique

Climbing Roses with Mother of Pearl Technique

Don’t let the Climbing Roses bundle on page 9 of the new Occasions Catalog fool you. You can achieve some gorgeous looks without even coloring.  Join me in the studio for the first of two projects featuring this set and some techniques you won’t want to miss.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Climbing Roses, Stampin' Up!

Me oh my, I love anything vintage and I think this card fits the bill. I love showing different ways to use your stamps and dies. Those toys are an investment and we should use them to their fullest potential. But, did you know that when you purchase the Climbing Roses bundle you save 10%.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Climbing Roses, Stampin' Up!

Because, it’s a line art stamp with lots of detail, I’ll bet you thought you had to color it to give it interest and depth.  Well, I’m here to say, put those markers away for now.  Stamping on Designer Series Paper gave it just enough contrast. And then, using the Mother of Pearl technique on top of that, took it to the next level.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Climbing Roses, Stampin' Up!

Photographing shimmer is tough, but I hope you can see it on the little roses.  After heat embossing in black, I applied some of our Champagne Shimmer Paint with a piece of plastic wrap. After it was dry, I sponged on some Sahara Sand ink to really give it that vintage look.  Then just buffing with a dry paper towel brought all the shimmer forward.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Climbing Roses, Stampin' Up!

The dies in the Rose Trellis set are just so beautiful, I had to cut that big rose for the inside to finish things off.  Be sure to back your paper with our Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets before die cutting. Why! It makes the die cut a sticker and is so much easier to adhere to the project.

I taught this card initially on my Sunday WOW Facebook Live Show.  I’m live on Sunday’s at 7:00 (CST).  Be sure to join in the fun.  But no worries, if you missed it, here is a FREE video tutorial for you.

Here’s how the magic happens.

  • Card Base – Thick Whisper White CS – 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5 1/2″
  • Mat – Sahara Sand CS – 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Embossed Mat – Petal Pink CS – 3 3/4″ x 5″, embossed with the Subtle Embossing Folder
  • Trellis – Sahara Sand CS – 2 1/2″ x 5″
  • Flowers – Petal Promenade DSP – 3 3/4″ x 5″

Butterfly Gala Spinner

Butterfly Gala Spinner

Who doesn’t like an interactive card? Join me in my studio to learn how easy it is to create this Butterfly Gala Spinner Card.  I know, I know, at first glance you might think it looks difficult. But I promise I’ll walk you through the steps and you’ll see, you can create one too.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Butterfly Gala Spinner, Stampin' Up!

My inspiration started with the Happiness Blooms DSP. Calypso Coral reminds me of the orange that can be found in Monarch Butterflies. Speaking of which, I can’t wait for Spring, when we usually have 100’s here. I’ve got a butterfly garden in my back yard and our record of cocoons, hanging from the heaves of our house, stands at 220. That’ a lot of butterflies.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Butterfly Gala Spinner, Stampin' Up!

The butterfly gala spinner itself is stamped in Memento Black then using two generations of Calypso Coral I created those lovely butterfly images.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Butterfly Gala Spinner, Stampin' Up!

Call Me Clover, one of the 2018-2020 In-Color’s paired perfectly with the Mint Macaron card base. Did you know that the Butterfly Gala can be purchased in a bundle format. What does that mean? You get both the stamp set and punch, using one item code and save 10% to boot.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Butterfly Gala Spinner, Stampin' Up!

One of the best things about Stampin’ Up! products in the color coordination. The paper, inks, embellishments, etc. all match. No wasted time looking for just the right color.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Butterfly Gala Spinner, Stampin' Up!

Because the photopolymer stamps are bendable, I was able to shape the stamp to achieve the look around the circle image on the inside of the card.  I think that’s pretty spectacular.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Butterfly Gala Spinner, Stampin' Up!

I’ll bet you’re itching to create this card. Here you go, a FREE video tutorial to show you how.

Here’s how the magic happens.

  • Card Base – Mint Macaron – 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5 1/2″
  • DSP – Happiness Blooms – 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Scallop Ring – Call Me Clover CS – 3 3/4″ x 3 3/4″, cut the scallop circle, then cut the circle on top of the scallop circle image.  This will form your ring.
  • Butterflies – Whisper White CS – 5 1/2″ x 3 1/4″, stamp in Memento Tuxedo Black; large butterflies fill in stamp, stamp off in Calypso Coral; small butterflies fill in stamp, 1st generation Calypso Coral. Butterfly bodies in Tuxedo Black. Punch with the coordinating punch.
  • Sentiment – Whisper White CS – 3″ x 1″, stamp in Call Me Clover, cut with the smallest Rectangle Stitched Framelit
  • Sentiment Accent – Calypso Coral – 3 1/2″ x 1″, cut with the accent die from Doily Builder
  • Inside Mat – Whisper White CS – 5 1/4″ x 4″

Assembly:

  • Cut circle in card base.
  • Line up DSP, dry fitting, and trace circle on backside with a pencil.
  • Cut circle in the DSP.
  • Fold Card – Dry fit whisper white inside mat. Glue DSP circle in place.
  • Stamp curved sentiment, top right over the arc of the circle.
  • Stamp small butterfly in the lower left hand corner of the inside mat.
  • Adhere inside mat to the inside of the card.
  • On the front of the card, place a small strip of Tear & Tape on the top and bottom of the cut out circle.
  • Construct your butterfly gala spinner mechanism.
  • Embed the thread into the Tear & Tape on the card front.  Be sure it is tight. Apply a piece of Tear & Tape over the existing tape to reinforce. Trim metallic thread as needed.
  • Wet glue the DSP to the card front.
  • Wet glue the scallop circle to the card front.
  • Adhere the accent piece to the sentiment.
  • Pop the sentiment to the card front.
  • Glue dot the ribbon bow to the sentiment.

Tin Tile Patina Technique

Tin Tile Patina Technique

The tin tile patina technique is the best of all things, quick, easy and gorgeous. I’m so excited that the tin tile folder will carry over to our new Occasions Catalog. This gives us so many more opportunities to create beautiful cards and projects, including this one.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Tin Tile Patina Technique, Stampin' Up!

You know how a piece of copper has that great patina when it ages?  This tin tile patina technique is similar. Start off with a piece of Coastal Cabana cardstock and grunge it up!! I used copper embossing powder and staz on ink to give the piece all that texture.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Tin Tile Patina Technique, Stampin' Up!

My color combo is Basic Gray, Coastal Cabana and Pear Pizzazz.  Throwing in those hints of copper with the sprigs and copper trim really tied things together.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Tin Tile Patina Technique, Stampin' Up!

The dies form the Foliage Frame and Frosted Bouquet sets were used to die cut all the pretty foliage. And whatever you do, don’t forget to decorate the inside of your cards when you can.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Tin Tile Patina Technique, Stampin' Up!

This time I used the Very Vintage set in Pear Pizzazz and the sentiment from Flourishing Phrases was stamped in Memento Black. I would love to show you how to achieve that lovely tin tile patina technique.

Here’s how the magic happens.

  • Card Base – Basic Gray CS – 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5 1/2″
  • Embossed Mat – Coastal Cabana CS – 4″ x 5 1/4″, embossed with the Tin Tile Embossing Folder.  Be sure to check out the video to learn this patina technique.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Rooted in Nature, Shimmer Paint, Stampin' Up!

Rooted in Nature is a 16 piece set and coordinates with the Rooted in Nature Framelits dies. Purchase the bundle and save 10%.  This is the set that is perfect for all occasions, birthday, thinking of you, masculine cards, encouragement and the list goes on and on.

Now, what do you think about that?  Isn’t the Rooted in Nature bundle the best?  Be sure to place it on your next order so that you can create one of these cards yourself.
