Special Anniversary Card

Special Anniversary Card

Welcome! I’ve got something special to share with you. Today’s anniversary card is for my Mom & Dad. Want to take a guess how many years they have been together?  Are you sitting down? We are going to be celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary June 1st. Nope, that’s not a typo, it truly is 70 years.

Mom & Dad, 70 Years Together, Susan Levasseur

Our family has been very blessed having these two to guide and lead us, setting this true positive example of dedication and love. That’s why today’s anniversary card is a special one. The flowers are definitely for Mom and the more masculine color palette and simplistic structure is for Dad. That’s what marriage is all about, right? A little give and take makes everyone happy and content.

70th Wedding Anniversary Card, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

By choosing a monochromatic palette, I think the card depicts classic beauty. Pretty fitting for a 70th anniversary card, don’t you think? To create Mom’s little bouquet, I chose to work with the Cottage Rose bundle.

70th Wedding Anniversary Card, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

To make the center flower more 3D, I stamped the image 3 times and cut away petals from two of the images, creating a layered effect. Dad likes simplicity, so the card couldn’t be too fussy. I needed a focal image, and the new Fancy Frames dies did just the trick.

70th Wedding Anniversary Card, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

To enhance things a little more, I also cut the large die from the Artistic die set for a backdrop and not too much frill.  Using the large leaf die, from the same set, I was able to create all the leaf sets for Mom’s flowers. Nothing left to do, but stamp a little greeting on the inside. I left a lot of room to write a message on this very special occasion.

Heartfelt Vintage Thanks

Heartfelt Vintage Thanks

My Dad asked that I create a thank you card for some special people. That’s when I was inspired to create this  heartfelt vintage thanks. The color palette of Highland Heather and Blushing Bride with a hint of Mint Macaron and Pool Party is so soft and soothing.

Heartfelt Vintage Thanks, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

By using the large die in the Floral Heart die set I was able to create a lovely focal image. If you need more inspiration with this die set, check out this post. One of my favorite things to do is to create my own flowers for my projects.

Heartfelt Vintage Thanks, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

For today’s Heartfelt Vintage Thanks, I’ve used a collection of punches to shape the images and create this flower.

If you love the Hand-Penned DSP, be sure to stock up when the retirement list is published in April.  Papers and inks sell out super quick.

Be sure to watch to the end of my video tutorial where I will share a mailing tip for a dimensional card.

In the beautiful Encircled in Friendship stamp set there is an alternate sentiment for the inside of the card.  Because I created this card for Dad for a specific reason and group of people, I created my own sentiment. By using the die in the Encircled in Beauty die set, I’ve added that to the card.

Here’s how the magic happens.

  • Card Base – Highland Heather CS – 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored @ 5 1/2″
  • Inside Mats – Basic Black CS – 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″ and Basic White CS – 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Mat – Basic Black CS – 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″
  • DSP Mats – Hand-Penned DSP – Pattern #1 – 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″, rough the edges with the blade of your scissors; Pattern #2 – 3 3/8″ x 4 5/8″
  • Large Heart – Highland Heather CS – 4 1/4″ x 5 1/4″, cut with the die from the Floral Heart die set
  • Small Heart – Hand-Penned DSP – 2 3/4″ x 2 3/4″, cut with the die from the Floral Heart die set
  • Flower – Basic White CS – 1 3/4″ x 11″, punch one small flower with the Strawberry Builder Punch and4 large and 1 small flower with the Flowers & Leaves Punch. Spritz with Champagne Shimmer Mist, crumble. When dry open the petals and ink in Blushing Bride ink.
  • Sprigs – Mint Macaron CS – 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″, punch two leaf and two bough images with the Bough Punch. Pool Party CS – 2″ x 3″, punch two images from the Sprig Punch.
  • Sentiment – Basic White CS – 1″ x 3″, stamp the sentiment in Highland Heather and die cut with the die from the Stitched Rectangles die set.

Sister’s Vintage Birthday Card

Sister’s Vintage Birthday Card

It’s my sister’s birthday and she loves everything purple, sparkly and butterflies. Creating her vintage birthday card brought a big smile to my face. I sure hope it does the same for Kathy. I thought of her the entire time I was creating her card. That’s one of things I love about card making. It’s a personal, thought provoking experience. You give a little piece of “you” with each card you share.

Sister's Vintage Birthday Card, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

Don’t you just love the way Stampin’ Up! products all coordinate? In my opinion, I think that makes creating a lot more enjoyable. You don’t have to search around, the paper, ink, embellishments, ribbon all coordinate. Since Kathy’s favorite color is purple, that’s where I started her vintage birthday card. I pulled my Highland Heather cardstock and went to town.

Sister's Vintage Birthday Card, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

Because I embossed the mat with my Timeworn Type 3D Embossing Folder, I was able to create lots of texture to begin my layering process. The lovely Hand Penned DSP had the perfect Highland Heather sheet. I knew I wanted to include some soft flowers and vellum card stock was the perfect choice

Sister's Vintage Birthday Card, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

To create my flowers, I turned to the Flowers & Leaves Punch and embossed them with the Ornate Floral embossing folder. By lightly inking with my blending brush, I was able to enhance the embossing and give the flower just a hint of color.

Vintage Thinking of You

Vintage Thinking of You

My studio is my happy place and I needed a pick me up. So, I decided to create a couple of vintage thinking of you cards. If you’ve been following me, you know I LOVE vintage design. If you’re new to my blog, welcome, hope you stick around and get to know me and my work. I’ve got some Blog Candy to give away and would like to take a moment to announce the winner. Congratulations to Sandra Blair! Please email me your mailing address and I’ll get your prize off to you.

Now let’s jump into today’s projects. Both cards are a 6″ x 6″ format. One on the simple and elegant side and the other way over the top with lots of techniques.

Vintage Thinking of You, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

Let’s take a closer look at the simple yet very elegant style first.

Vintage Thinking of You, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

This vintage thinking of you card will take you very few supplies to make an impact. I’m revisiting an oldie but goodies from the Annual Catalog. It’s the gorgeous Artistically Inked Bundle. And our color palette is more on the soft subtle side with Basic Gray, Basic White and a pop of Blushing Bride.

Vintage Thinking of You, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

To add some background texture, I’ve embossed the beautiful Simply Marvelous DSP from the Jan-Feb Sale-a-Bration brochure.  With a $50 order (before tax and shipping) that one is a FREEBIE you can choose. Unfortunately, I think lots of people have overlooked the Gold & Rose Gold 6″ x 6″ Metallic Specialty Paper in the Annual Catalog. But not me, I just had to use it for the backdrop for that over-the-top die cut.

Vintage Thinking of You, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

Where did I find the sentiments for this card? Yep, another Sale-a-Bration freebie, the Special Moments stamp set. The watercolor wash and the lovely floral image are both from the Artistically Inked set. Ready to step things up and learn a few techniques? My second vintage thinking of you card will fit the bill.

Vintage Thinking of You, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

This time, I’ve included some of my favorite punches and die sets with more sparkly paper. Not to mention, I’ve created a wintry themed handmade flower with the new 3/4″ frayed ribbon. The day I created this card, it was cold, gloomy and very wintery. I wanted the card to include the essence of that day. What do you think, did I nail it? Spoiler alert – at the time of this post the ribbon has been so popular, the first batch sold out. But, wait don’t worry, more is on the way and is expected in the warehouse the week of January 24th.

Vintage Thinking of You, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

To get my sparkly butterflies, I pulled my Brilliant Wings dies and the new Supple Shimmer Specialty Paper. In the catalog, there is a photography blooper. The papers are listed as pink and blue, but in fact they are pink and a greenish tint of iridescent. In my opinion that’s better.

Vintage Thinking of You, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

Did you know that the new Heart & Home Doilies are reversible? There are 30 doilies in the package, 10 each in Basic Gray, Cinnamon Cider and Misty Moonlight. Turn them over and expose the white side and you can make them any color you want with your blending brush and ink pad. Tadah!!!

Vintage Thinking of You, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

My new favorite punch, in the Jan-June Mini, is the Bough Punch. I punched a few images from Soft Succulent. Then I cut some of the images with the dies from the Flowers of Home die set in Soft Sea Foam and Vellum. Coloring the vellum with my blending brush and Blushing Bride ink was a happy mistake.  Would you like to learn how to make that unique flower for your next vintage thinking of you card? Vintage Fall with Gorgeous Leaves & Pretty Pumpkins

Vintage Fall with Gorgeous Leaves & Pretty Pumpkins

By popular demand, I’m sharing a Vintage Fall style with you guys today. Stampin’ Up! has designed two beautiful bundles to get the job done. I’ll be featuring both the Gorgeous Leaves and Pretty Pumpkins bundles with a little of the Iconic Dies. Let’s get busy.

Vintage Fall with Gorgeous Leaves & Pretty Pumpkins, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

I’m in love with all those shabby, vintage fall style images and all the layers of texture. Because I used a 6″ x 6″ card front, I’ve got lots of real estate to decorate. First off, I broke out a package of the Harvest Meadow DSP and chose two patterns to tie everything together.

Vintage Fall with Gorgeous Leaves & Pretty Pumpkins, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

Then I chose a very vintage fall inspired color palette, Early Espresso, Bumblebee, Cajun Craze and Crumb Cake. By using my blending brush, I was able to tone down the basic white in the design with a little Crumb Cake ink.

Vintage Fall with Gorgeous Leaves & Pretty Pumpkins, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

To create my faux fence, I cut a few strips of Early Espresso card stock and embossed them with the new Timber 3D embossing folder. Next, rough up the edges to give some texture.

Vintage Fall with Gorgeous Leaves & Pretty Pumpkins, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

I love that pumpkin image, it’s so unique with all those leaves  the surface. Be sure to add just a touch of Wink of Stella on some of the leaves, to bring in a little sparkle.
