There are so many different coloring tools in our crafting arsenal, you choose the one you like best. The focal mat was colored with our spectacular Blending Brush. Our sponge daubers came in handy to color the gorgeous floral image.

Quick & Easy True Love DSP, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

Because I wanted to add a little more interest to my flower, I’ve added a couple of die cut sprigs in Calypso Coral. I cut those with the dies from the Sunflowers die set. By the way, that’s one of my favorite bundles in the current Annual Catalog.  Watch how quick and easy this card comes together.

Here’s how the magic happens.

Dandy Garden Techniques

Dandy Garden Techniques

Welcome! Check out all my Dandy Garden Techniques. Hopefully, you will learn a new technique or two, that you can incorporate into your card making.

Dandy Garden Techniques, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

When designing today’s card, I knew I wanted it to have aged look. You know, like an old treasure map. Throughout the project, I’ve used Soft Suede to give that aged appearance.

Dandy Garden Techniques, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

Dandy Garden technique #1 is the use of Shimmery White Embossing Paste. The paste already has the glitter in it. Because I applied it to both floral images it gave them lots of texture and interest.

Dandy Garden Techniques, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

Did you notice the stained glass look of the dragonfly? This is another fabulous technique with minimal effort. Stamp the image on vellum, allow to dry.  Then color on the back side of the vellum with your Stampin’ Blends. Tada, you’re a stained glass artist.

Dandy Garden Techniques, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

By using my blending brush, I was able to age the sentiment as well as the embossed circle. My suggestion would be to begin your blending brush collection. It’s the best way to achieve a soft blending on multiple projects.

Dandy Garden Techniques, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

By using one of the sheets in the Forever Gold Specialty Paper, I was able to give just enough shine and interest. It also anchors the design. Let me share with you how easy all these Dandy Garden techniques truly are.

Here’s how the magic happens.

  • Card Base – Very Vanilla CS – 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored @ 5/12″
  • Inside Mat – Very Vanilla CS – 4″ x 5 1/4″, stamp the sentiment and dandelion in Soft Suede. Color with Stampin’ Blends.
  • Mat – Pretty Peacock CS – 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″

Embossing Paste Technique

Embossing Paste Technique

Are you ready to learn how to create this fabulous embossing paste technique? Grab your embossing paste, your favorite color card stock and embossing folder. You’ll be creating backgrounds in no time flat. But beware, it’s addicting.

Embossing Paste Background Technique, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

Because I chose Night of Navy for my background, I knew this card was going to be dramatic. And boy or boy was I right, if I say so myself.

Embossing Paste Background Technique, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

I was inspired to create a focal image for the butterfly. Did you remember that I live in New Orleans? Well, the architecture here is stunning. The old houses are covered in finials, crown moldings, medallions and corbels. By embossing and stacking some die cut scallop circles, I think I was able to mimic a medallion I adore. What do you think?

New Orleans Medallion

Pieces like this one are plentiful all over the city.  If you ever visit our the Big Easy, be sure to take a tour in the French Quarter or Garden District. Warning, you’ll want to be sure you have lots of space on your phone or camera. You’ll be taking lots of photos. Now that you know what inspired me, back to today’s project.

Embossing Paste Background Technique, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

Vellum is a very underused medium in my opinion. You don’t know what you’re missing until you give it a try. I’ve used a bit to add subtle color behind the butterfly. Our Stampin’ Blends color it up with no streaking. Then I decided to tone down the bold colors in the foliage a bit by cutting and layering in a few small leaves.

Embossing Paste Background Technique, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

This has got to be one of the easiest techniques EVER. All you have to do is “butter” your embossed cardstock evenly with the embossing paste. The hardest part is letting it dry.

Embossing Paste Background Technique, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

Because I used the Flowering Blooms bundle, I was able to include that fabulous floral image on the inside of my card. Talk about dramatic! It’s beautiful no matter whether you color it or not. Let’s get to today’s FREE video tutorial.

Here’s how the magic happens.

  • Card Base – Basic Gray CS – 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored @ 5 1/2″
  • Inside Mat – Basic White CS – 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Mat – Basic White CS – 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″
  • Embossed Mat – Night of Navy CS – 4″ x 5 1/4″, embossed with the Parisian Flourish 3D embossing folder. Butter the surface with the embossing paste. Allow to dry.
  • Foliage – Old Olive CS – two @ 3″ x 4 1/2″ and Rich Razzleberry – 2 3/4″ x 5 1/2″. Cut two each of the images shown in the video with the dies from the Forever Flourishing die set.
  • Vellum Leaves – Vellum CS – 3″ x 2″, cut five images with the dies from the Flowering Dies set.

Circle Celebration – One Set Two Designs

WOW, the Circle Celebration set has so many possibilities. Today, I’m so excited to share two designs with you. Both have the same color palette. This shows off the versatility even more. Watch the dramatic change with just a different die set and a few techniques.

Circle Celebration, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

Circle Celebration, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!

Vintage Style Thank You Card

Vintage Style Thank You Card

Welcome back! I hope today’s vintage style thank you card was worth the wait. I hate to say it, but I’m still battling the shingles. It’s been a tough road, but I’ve had a few days with some progress. During one of those days, I designed today’s card.

Vintage Style Thank You Card, Good Morning Magnolia, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations

First things first, a little head’s up. See the gorgeous Seaside Spray card stock, ribbon and ink, it’s about to retire.  I know, I know, it’s very sad. But that along with four other colors, Rococo Rose, Purple Posy, Terracotta Tile and Pretty Peacock will be replaced soon. That’s right, we are getting a new Annual Catalog, squeal!!!!! I get to see it later this month and you’ll be sure I’ll be ordering boxes and boxes of them to send out to my customers. So, I guess the moral of this story is, if you love any of these colors, be sure to pick up the supplies sooner rather than later. The retired list will publish and things will go super fast.  Ok, back to today’s vintage style thank you card.

Vintage Style Thank You Card, Good Morning Magnolia, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations

If I say so myself, I think the flowers came out beautifully.  The large flower was cut with the dies from the Magnolia Memory die set.  Then with a little ink blending and shaping I was able to create a beautiful focal image for my vintage composition.

Vintage Style Thank You Card, Good Morning Magnolia, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations

The beautiful In Good Taste Designer Series Paper is a very versatile pack with so many neutral backgrounds. I’ll be sad to see this one go as well. That’s if it retires. But just to let you know, designer series papers almost always retire.

Vintage Style Thank You Card, Good Morning Magnolia, Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations

A group of very special friends sent me the most gorgeous bouquet of Sunflowers to brighten my day. I just had to create an over the top vintage style thank you card to express my sincere appreciation.  I can’t wait to send these out today. I hope it makes them as happy as the flowers made me.

Because I spritzed and crumpled the small bloom images, I was able to create a texture filled little embellishment.
