Dragonfly Dreams Decor Frame

Dragonfly Dreams Decor Frame

Thanks for stopping by my blog today. I’ve got a special project to share. This 12×12 Dragonfly Dreams decor frame was a joy to design. One of my lovely club members requested a project highlighting the beautiful Dragonfly Dreams set.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, DragonflyDreams, Stampin' Up!

So many beautiful things on this piece, it’s hard to know where to start. I guess I’ll start with the inspiration. Because we live in Southeast Louisiana, we have lots, I mean lots of dragonflies in my garden. We also are in the middle of the fog season. The weather just doesn’t know what it wants to do. There’s nothing like seeing the low drifting fog and little garden creatures interacting. It hit me there. I wanted the little scenes in my Dragonfly Dreams decor piece to look like they were flying around in the reeds, in the fog mist.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, DragonflyDreams, Stampin' Up!

Now, how was I going to create that foggy look? To the rescue came the subtle embossing folder. Stamping on top of the embossed mat gave it that sketchy look, almost like fog mist. I used the Abstract Impressions stamp set to create the elusion of reeds and foliage in the garden. The Dragonfly needed to really sing. So, I cut it out with our new Grapefruit Grove Foil Paper. Did you know that you can earn that gorgeous paper FREE with a $50 order during Sale-a-Bration? WOW!!!! It has a hologram effect, hard to photograph, but I hope you can see the different colors reflected in the light.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, DragonflyDreams, Stampin' Up!

One of my signature flowers is the one tipped in acrylic paint. It gives the flower a vintage look. I used the 4-petal flower punch for my petals and a 1 1/4″ circle, spiral cut, to form the center. Those gorgeous accent leaves and side die-cut detail were cut with the dies from Wonderful Romance.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, DragonflyDreams, Stampin' Up!

The sentiment from Part of My Story started the message on this piece. Choosing the perfect accent words was next. The “amazing” was die cut with the die from Celebrate You. And the sweet little “friend” is one of the many word dies from our new set, Well Said.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, DragonflyDreams, Stampin' Up!

Another fabulous new die set is the Doily Builder Thinlits Dies.  That’s what I used to make the “friend” title pop. Are you inspired to create one of these for your very own or to give to a special friend?

Halloween Sampler Toil & Trouble

Halloween Sampler Toil & Trouble

Sadly, my Halloween Sampler will be the last of my 2018 Halloween projects.  It’s time to move on to Fall and Christmas.  Where in the world is 2018 going?  One of my wonderful club members asked that I design a Halloween Sampler using the Cauldron Bubbles bundle.  I jumped at that opportunity because the bundle is just so cute and easy to work with.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Halloween Sampler, Toil & Trouble, Stampin' Up!

And this year we have a second Halloween bundle, Spooky Sweets.  That bundle includes our Spooky Bats punch.

The color combination for our Halloween Sampler is Pineapple Punch, Mango Melody, Gorgeous Grape, Granny Apple Green, Whisper White and Basic Black.  Lots of those colors can be found in the Toil and Trouble DSP.  That’s one of the cutest Halloween paper lines we’ve had.  Lots of the images coordinate with the dies, making creating a piece like this super quick and easy.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Halloween Sampler, Toil & Trouble, Stampin' Up!

Instead of stamping and coloring the witch and the cat, I just cut it from the DSP with the coordinating dies.  I just love all the texture in the piece.  And that was created with our fabulous collection of embossing folders.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Halloween Sampler, Toil & Trouble, Stampin' Up!

Have you used our new Copper Shimmer Paint? If not, I’ve got a great technique that was used on all the large Gorgeous Grape elements.  I created my own custom Copper Shimmer mist.  I hope you can see the color and shine on those pieces.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Halloween Sampler, Toil & Trouble, Stampin' Up!

The pumpkins too, came from the DSP.  I just drew a little jack-o-lantern face on one of the pumpkins with the Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker.  Did you know that this is one of the markers that is sold separately?

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Halloween Sampler, Toil & Trouble, Stampin' Up!

I know bats aren’t really cute, but I have to say these make me smile.  I stamped them in Memento Black and punched them out with the Spooky Bats punch.  I’ve got a tip for you in my video tutorial that will help line up that stamp and punch every time, quick and easy.

Here’s how the magic happens.

Delightfully Detailed Sampler

Delightfully Detailed Sampler

Time for a new sampler and the Delightfully Detailed Laser Cut Specialty DSP was my inspiration. This gorgeous paper can be found on page189 in our new Annual Catalog.  This paper stack is perfect for all crafters, both card makers and scrapbookers.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Delightfully Detailed Sampler, Stampin' Up!

The Delightfully Detailed Laser-Cut papers are Whisper White on one side and Very Vanilla on the other. To create my sampler design, I wanted to custom color the lovely paper. I mixed 10 drops of Granny Apple Green ink refill with alcohol in one spritzer and 10 drops of Coastal Cabana in the other.  I laid the Delightfully Detailed Laser-Cut paper over a sheet of 12″x12″ Very Vanilla CS and randomly spritzed with both colors.  In that way, I achieved two pieces of custom colored paper, the positive and negative.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Delightfully Detailed Sampler, Stampin' Up!

Is that not gorgeous?  I love the subtle colors.  My plan is to cut this sheet into card fronts and create a gift set of thank you cards.  More coming on that soon. But for now, back to our sampler. I knew I wanted it to be nature inspired to go along with the floral pattern in the Delightfully Detailed paper.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Delightfully Detailed Sampler, Stampin' Up!

I started the first block in the sampler with the Serene Garden Bundle. I just love that corner image and it’s so easy to stamp in just the perfect location with our new Stamparatus!  The sweet little sentiment is from the Abstract Impressions stamp set.  That’s fast becoming another favorite.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Delightfully Detailed Sampler, Stampin' Up!

The gorgeous dove is also from Serene Garden. The embossed mat was created with the Lovely Floral 3D Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  In the next block, I knew I wanted to use the Stitched Labels Framelits. I cut the largest label in the set in Coastal Cabana and it really made the stitching pop.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Delightfully Detailed Sampler, Stampin' Up!

That sweet little rose was created by punching one 1 3/8″ scallop circle.  I cut the image into a spiral and rolled it with my tweezers.  But hang on, I almost forgot to tell you.  The color combination for this sampler is Whisper White, Coastal Cabana, Granny Apple Green, and Night of Navy. Love it!!!!

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Delightfully Detailed Sampler, Stampin' Up!

One of the things I love about Stampin’ Up! products is that you can combine the stamps and dies from various sets to create gorgeous projects.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Delightfully Detailed Sampler, Stampin' Up!

You can’t have a nature inspired art piece without a butterfly.  The new Springtime Impressions Thinlits and Petal Pair embossing folder made creating this sampler block easy. I used my sponge daubes to do all the inking and color blending.

Part Two Faith Sampler

Part Two Faith Sampler

Welcome, today is part two of my Faith Sampler featuring the Hold on to Hope Bundle and other gorgeous Stampin’ UP! products.  In my previous post, I highlighted the first two blocks and the center banner.  In part two, I will be sure to give you all the details on the remaining two blocks and beautiful Faith title.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!, Faith Sampler

If you don’t need a decor piece, four of the elements on this design can be used on card fronts.  Just cut a card base in Powder Pink CS, 8 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ and score at 4 1/4″.  Then all you have to do is mount the block design on your card front.  Voila, two projects for the price of one.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!, Faith Sampler

That gorgeous detailed heart is a die cut from the Bloomin’ Heart Thinlits.  Those little flowers, which I personally think, make everything pop, come from the Tree Builder Punch. Our sentiment again comes from the Hold on to Hope stamp set.  It’s silver embossed, cut with the die from Petals and More. Inking the edges in Powder Pink really makes it stand out.  Background texture was created on the Berry Burst mat with the Softly Falling embossing folder.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!, Faith Sampler

First of all, this block is highlighted with the Berry Burst Metallic Edge Ribbon, which by the way will carry over to our new catalog.  I think that is fantastic news. Using the Garden Trellis embossing folder helped create a beautiful backdrop for this lovely sentiment from Hold on to Hope.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!, Faith Sampler

Stampin’ UP!’s new Large Letters Framelits have certainly been a huge hit.  Going on backorder a couple of times in the last several months proves that point.  Why not consider having a party with me where you could earn yours at 50% off.  Ask me how we can do this.  Wondering how I achieved that soft look on the letters?  Cut a piece of Shimmery White CSat 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ and in Powder Pink ink. Place your dies on the CS and run it through the Big Shot. Stamp the gorgeous flourish from Timeless Textures randomly over the letters.  Ink the edges in Powder Pink and apply your adhesive foam strips and they will be ready to apply to your Sweet Soiree DSP.

Would you like to see me create this project on camera?  No worries, I’ve filmed a two-part tutorial on my Youtube Channel, WOW NOLA Creations.  I would love and appreciate you subscribing.

Faith Sampler Hold on to Hope

Faith Sampler Hold on to Hope

My friends ask me, where do you get your inspiration.  I think for me, it’s my faith.  My faith in art, nature, family, friends, and everything beautiful around me. I try my best to keep a positive attitude. Before I start a new design I either sit and reflect in the quiet or take a walk and absorb all the nature around me.  By clearing my mind and having the faith that I’ll be inspired by something I hear, encounter or feel, I am encouraged.  Then the art just flows forward.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!, Faith Sampler

A couple of my club members are going through really tough times and I could see the concern.  It occurred to me that we all needed some inspiration, a little faith and something beautiful to share with a family member or friend. As a mother and grandmother, it breaks my heart to witness some of the sadness going on in the world today.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!, Faith Sampler

I hope in some small way others can share this project with someone special, to inspire, encourage or give a little faith where needed. To make this project a little easier to explain and share with you, I’ll break it up into two parts.  Today, we will tackle, the first three blocks and in part two, I will highlight the final two blocks and the “Faith” title.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!, Faith Sampler

Julie, my club member, loves anything pink, that’s why I started with the base of the project in Powder Pink.  I just love how the Calypso Coral and Berry Burst made everything so vibrant. The Hold on to Hope Bundle is one of the stars here.   If you follow me, here or on YouTube you know I LOVE lots of layers and texture in my designs.  Be sure to check out your embossing folder stash. They are a great value and add so much texture.  In this block I used the Pinewood Planks TEIF. You’ll need your embossing buddy, heat tool and silver embossing powder as well, because I incorporated heat embossing throughout.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!, Faith Sampler

Hold on to Hope remains the stamp set of choice on this one.  Yes, indeed I embossed that beautiful sentiment with silver embossing powder.  The texture in the background was created with the Ruffled TEIF. Just perfect, to allow the words to shine, don’t you think?  That sweet little flower is a die cut from the Petals and More Thinlits Dies.  Did you know you could earn that die set for FREE during the remaining days of 2018 Sale-a-Bration?  Place a $100 qualifying order in my online store and choose the die set for FREE!!

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Stampin' Up!, Faith Sampler

Timeless Textures stamp set is one of my favorites and that’s what I used to stamp the edge, tone-on-tone with Berry Burst, in this center banner.  Those gorgeous leaf flourishes are also from the Petals and More Thinlets Dies.  See, you just have to have them, right?  The sentiment is from the So Many Shells stamp set.  That’s one set I passed over at first because I only saw the shells.  But now it’s one of my go-to sets for the words.  Each sentiment is lovely, inspirational and can be used on so many projects.

I’ll be publishing a 2-part YouTube video series on this project.  You’ll want to subscribe to my channel, WOW NOLA Creations, so you can follow along with me through the design process.
