Humming Along Birthday

Humming Along Birthday

Time for a little sneak peek of the Humming Along bundle in Stampin’ Up!’s new 2019 Occasions Catalog. It was no big surprise that I was drawn to this bundle.  I love hummingbirds, they frequent my garden almost year round.  As a matter of fact, while typing this, having my cup of morning coffee, I can see one feeding.

That drop dead gorgeous background was created with our Lace Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. First, I embossed my mat of Granny Apple Green cardstock.  Then I ran a lightly inked sponge of Smoky Slate over the embossed background.  That really gave the piece a shabby look and made the embossing pop. The edges were crying for a little distressing, so I did just that.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Humming Along, Stampin' Up!

Creating a little color and interest to my sentiment is one technique I love to incorporate.  This time, I stamped the single leaf image in Granny Apple Green and then colored it in with my Blender Pen. Quick, easy and ties everything together.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Humming Along, Stampin' Up!

Did you notice? I positioned the cardstock in the embossing folder just right so I would be sure to have a little flower for our hummer?  Each flower was highlighted a little more with the Wink of Stella pen and a sweet pearl for the center. Join me in my studio so that I can show you all the steps to create this lovely card.

Here’s how the magic happens.

Tin Tile Patina Technique

Tin Tile Patina Technique

The tin tile patina technique is the best of all things, quick, easy and gorgeous. I’m so excited that the tin tile folder will carry over to our new Occasions Catalog. This gives us so many more opportunities to create beautiful cards and projects, including this one.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Tin Tile Patina Technique, Stampin' Up!

You know how a piece of copper has that great patina when it ages?  This tin tile patina technique is similar. Start off with a piece of Coastal Cabana cardstock and grunge it up!! I used copper embossing powder and staz on ink to give the piece all that texture.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Tin Tile Patina Technique, Stampin' Up!

My color combo is Basic Gray, Coastal Cabana and Pear Pizzazz.  Throwing in those hints of copper with the sprigs and copper trim really tied things together.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Tin Tile Patina Technique, Stampin' Up!

The dies form the Foliage Frame and Frosted Bouquet sets were used to die cut all the pretty foliage. And whatever you do, don’t forget to decorate the inside of your cards when you can.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Tin Tile Patina Technique, Stampin' Up!

This time I used the Very Vintage set in Pear Pizzazz and the sentiment from Flourishing Phrases was stamped in Memento Black. I would love to show you how to achieve that lovely tin tile patina technique.

Here’s how the magic happens.

  • Card Base – Basic Gray CS – 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5 1/2″
  • Embossed Mat – Coastal Cabana CS – 4″ x 5 1/4″, embossed with the Tin Tile Embossing Folder.  Be sure to check out the video to learn this patina technique.

Adding layers and texture really enhanced the masculine look of this design.  I just love the oak tree image and have stamped this one in Soft Suede.

First Frost Birthday Card

First Frost Birthday Card

My Mom has a special birthday fast approaching.  I wanted to create a card that celebrated that.  This First Frost birthday card fills the bill.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, First Frost Birthday Card, Fancy Fold

Who am I kidding, the entire Frosted Floral Suite in the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog is fantastic.  Don’t miss out on the 10% discount on the First Frost bundle.  That discount will expire January 2nd.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, First Frost Birthday Card, Fancy Fold

I love the watercolor look created with the set.  Creating this First Frost birthday card started off with deciding which fancy fold to incorporate.  Displaying the card was a must, since my Mom never discards any of the cards we gift her.  But, since the First Frost set didn’t have birthday sentiments, I went to my stash and pulled the Very Vintage and Beautiful Bouquet sets.  They had the perfect sentiments I wanted to share with her.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, First Frost Birthday Card, Fancy Fold

Did you know that all of our designer series paper packs have a list of the colors used, listed on the back packaging?  That’s a great place to start your design process.  That makes it easy to choose a color palette.  In the Frosted Floral Specialty DSP, there are rich colors including Night of Navy, Blackberry Bliss and Mint Macaron.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, First Frost Birthday Card, Fancy Fold

I wish I could have captured the frosted look of this paper in the photos.  It has a shimmery pearlized look. And again, you can use this paper long past the holidays. On top of that, the bundle includes an eleven piece framelit set with lovely floral images and a fabulous frame.

Would you like to create this card for someone special?  Here’s my FREE video tutorial to show you how.

Simple Stamping Healing Hugs

Simple Stamping Healing Hugs

Sending a handmade card is a gift in itself and you can do it too! Simple stamping is quick, easy and you don’t need many supplies. Using only stamps, ink and paper, I created this lovely card. Creating a stack of these will be a breeze and I’m here to show you how.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Simple Stamping, Healing Hugs

Ok, I know this might seem difficult, but I’m here to let you know it’s truly simple and quick.  I think sometimes we forget that all we need to create beautiful handmade cards is stamps, ink and paper.  In this simple stamping project that’s all I used.  The gorgeous Petal Promenade Designer Series Paper was the inspiration.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Simple Stamping, Healing Hugs

All the Stampin’ Up! packages have a “cheat sheet” on the back.  It lists all the colors used in that paper. What a great starting point in choosing a color palette.  My color combo for my simple stamping experience was Blackberry Bliss, Blushing Bride and Mossy Meadow.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Simple Stamping, Healing Hugs

Healing Hugs is one of our DistINKtive sets.  What does that mean? You can achieve a fabulous tonal image in one stamping.  The highlights and lowlights are designed in the stamp itself.  Pretty awesome, don’t you think?

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Simple Stamping, Healing Hugs

Another simple technique is what’s referred to as fussy cutting.  All you need is a pair of paper snips.  You remember the days of paper dolls or kindergarten class projects?  That’s how I cut out that gorgeous rose and leaves.

I would love to show you up close and personal how truly simple stamping can be. And how I created this beautiful card.  Here’s my FREE video tutorial, hope you enjoy it.

See, I told you it was simple! Now I’ll bet you want to create a stack of these for all your family and friends, don’t you? Here’s how the magic happens.

  • Card Base – Blackberry Bliss CS – 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5 1/2″
  • Mat – Blushing Bride CS – 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Designer Series Paper – Petal Promenade DSP – 3 3/4″ x 5″
  • Accent Band – Petal Promenade DSP – 1″ x 3 3/4″

Happiness Surrounds Meets Snowfall Thinlits

Happiness Surrounds Meets Snowfall Thinlits

Happiness Surrounds, what a perfect name for this stamp set. It contains so many versatile sentiments and images.  It makes me happy! This set is part of the Snowflake Showcase promotion that is available through the end of November or while supplies last. In this project, I wanted to show you how you can create a beautiful card with the set and the Snowfall Thinlits dies.  And if you know me, you know I love techniques and threw in a few.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Happiness Surrounds, Stampin' Up!

Doesn’t this card remind you of a snowy wintery morning?  In southeast Louisiana, those are far and few between, but when it happens, this is the look I remember.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Happiness Surrounds, Stampin' Up!

I started things off with a piece of watercolor paper, 3 3/4″ x 5″.  Then I dropped about 3 drops of our Balmy Blue ink refill in a little dish and watered it down with my aqua painter.  Be sure to lightly wet the backside of your watercolor paper to help it from curling too much while you are working. Next, you will really need to saturate the front of the paper.  Pick up some color for the dish and drop it on, watch the magic happen.  Each panel will be different, but that’s the fantastic part.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Happiness Surrounds, Stampin' Up!

I wanted the card to be more of a generic wintery card, that’s why I chose the Happiness Surrounds set.  I knew I wanted to create a cool snowy look, that’s where the watercolor wash techniques came in. After the watercolor paper dried, I wanted it to sparkle a little, so I watered down a couple drops of our Vegas Gold Shimmer paint in a small dish.  Then the fun part, splatter it on. Once that was dry, I ran my embossing buddy over the surface, stamped the “Hello Friend” from the Happiness Surrounds set in Versa Mark and sprinkled with gold embossing powder.  Then, melted the powder with the heat tool.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Happiness Surrounds, Stampin' Up!

In this photo, I think you can almost see that the large snowflake has a “puffy” sort of dimension.  That’s because I cut it from the limited edition White Velvet Sheets.  It is very light weight and easy to cut and really packs a WOW factor.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Happiness Surrounds, Stampin' Up!

The next technique was to custom color our beautiful Whisper White Polka Dot Tulle.  I just cut a strip and put it into the dish that contained the leftover watered down Vegas Gold Shimmer Paint.  Now I’ve got gold polka dot ribbon, but with a shimmer, FANTASTIC!!

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Happiness Surrounds, Stampin' Up!

I couldn’t stop there.  I had to see what else I could do with the white velvet sheets.  So, I cut a 3″ x 3″ piece and dropped on quite a few drops of the watered down Balmy Blue ink refill.  Letting it dry and absorb into the paper, before cutting the smaller snowflake is very important.  Once that happened, I created a 3″ x 3″ gift card. I love the look.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Happiness Surrounds, Stampin' Up!

You could add as much or as little of the color to make your own one-of-a-kind snowflake. I thought it might be easier for you to see some of these techniques in action, so here is my FREE video tutorial.  Let me know if you have any questions or need any help.

Here’s how the magic happens.
