Watercolor Pencils Accented Blooms

Watercolor Pencils Accented Blooms

We have so many wonderful coloring mediums, sometimes we forget about them or don’t use them enough.  But, you know what, as soon as I stamped the large image from Accented Blooms, I knew I wanted to use my watercolor pencils. I think it’s so dramatic to use a white watercolor pencil on card cardstock.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Watercolor Pencils with Accented Blooms, Stampin' Up!

Stampin’ Up!’s watercolor pencils are high quality, highly pigmented and very creamy.  They are easy to blend with either a water brush, wink of Stella, or blender pen.  I used three colors from our original watercolor pencil release, Whisper White, Old Olive and Daffodil Delight.  In August 2018, Stampin’ Up! released Watercolor Pencil Assortment #2.  So many new fresh colors, you’ll want to add those to your next order.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Watercolor Pencils with Accented Blooms, Stampin' Up!

I used two colors of embossing powders as well, Silver and Black.  I have one trip about coloring with the watercolor pencils on the embossed image.  Try not to color over the embossing powder, the watercolor pencils don’t play nice.

The Accented Blooms stamp set also has some sweet small images that are perfect to create your own little border.  And that’s just what I did on the inside of the card.

I would love to share my video tutorial with you so that you can create one of these cards yourself.  You’ll fall in love with watercolor pencils all over again.

Here’s how the magic happens.

  • Card Base – Gray Granite CS – 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5 1/2″
  • Mat – Whisper White CS – 4″ x 5 1/4″, embossed with the Tufted embossing folder.
  • Focal – Basic Black CS – 3 5/8″ x 3 5/8″ and Merry Merlot CS – 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″
  • Sentiment – Whisper White CS – 4 1/4″ x 2″
  • Accent – Silver Foil Paper – 6″ x 1″
  • Inside Mat – Whisper White CS – 5 1/4″ x 4″

Stamping:

  • Run your embossing buddy over the Merry Merlot CS and the strip of Whisper White CS.  Stamp the sentiment in Versa Mark, sprinkle with Silver Embossing Powder and heat with the heat tool. Stamp the large floral image, in Versa Mark, on the Merry Merlot CS, sprinkle with the Black Embossing Powder and heat with the heat tool.
  • Punch the sentiment with the Tailored Tag Punch.
  • Color the Floral Image with the Watercolor Pencils.
  • On the inside mat, stamp the small vine in Old Olive and small flower in Merry Merlot.

Card Assembly:

  • Adhere the inside mat into the card with wet glue.
  • Adhere the embossed mat to the card front with wet glue.
  • Adhere the focal image to the Basic Black CS with wet glue.
  • Apply a strip of tear and tape to the bottom of the Basic Black CS.
  • Adhere the Silver Foil accent to the focal image.
  • Pop the focal image to the card front.
  • Create an 8 loop bow with the silver metallic thread.  Glue dot the bow to the focal image.
  • Pop the sentiment to the card front.
  • Apply the three silver pearls to the flowers.

Accented Blooms Thank You

Accented Blooms Thank You

Welcome!  Thanks for stopping by my blog.  I’m very excited to share today’s project with you.  I’ll be using the beautiful Accented Blooms stamp set.  One of the best features of this set is that there is a coordinating punch.  That makes creating with Accented Blooms quick and easy.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Accented Blooms, Stampin' Up!

WOW, do you just love that background paper?  Accented Blooms is just that. A set you can use to accent all your die cuts, pretty papers and techniques with.  My Brushos were calling my name.  I hadn’t used them in a bit and knew I wanted my backdrop to be bright, vibrant and colorful.  I used both the Yellow and Gamboge to create my Accented Blooms background.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Accented Blooms, Stampin' Up!

My color combination highlights lots of our new colors, Poppy Parade, Mango Melody, and Shaded Spruce. Aren’t they yummy?

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Accented Blooms, Stampin' Up!

I used one of my favorite die sets, Foliage Frames, to create all the wonderful accent pieces. Stamping the Thank You, from Accented Blooms, in Poppy Parade started things off.  I love the font. This card is really quick and easy, uses minimal supplies and still packs the WOW factor. Would you like to create along with me.  Here’s my latest FREE video tutorial.

Here’s how the magic happens.

  • Card Base – Thick Whisper White CS – 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5 1/2″
  • Mat – Poppy Parade CS – 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Mat – Shimmery White CS – 3 3/4″ x 5″, create the background with brushos, as shown in the video
  • Sentiment – Whisper White CS – 4 1/4″ x 2″ – stamp the image in Poppy Parade and punch with the Tailored Tag punch.
  • Accent – Shaded Spruce CS – 4 1/4″ x 3″ – cut the image with the die from Foliage Frames

Service Project Time

Service Project Time

I’m not sure we should really refer to this event as a service project because it’s more of a pleasure.  Vising our local nursing home, Riverbend, is something we all look forward to.  We get to spend time with twenty of the most lovely, sweet people I’ve had the privilege of getting to know.  I’m always reminded of a quote about service that really touches my heart.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Service Project, Riverbend Nursing Home

We visit the nursing home on a quarterly basis to create a project with our friends.  To make it even better, I group of dedicated volunteers join me to make this day very special.  This time, I designed a sweet little framed piece they can place on their bedside table.  Hopefully it will remind them that we are thinking of them and that they are near to our hearts.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Service Project

I started this project by visiting my local Dollar Tree to get some inspiration. I needed to prepare 20 kits and design a project that isn’t too challenging for our friends at the Nursing Home.  I noticed the 5 1/2″ x 7″ frames and my creative wheels started to turn.  I remembered the sweet sentiment in the Hold on to Hope stamp set and thought I could design a bedside frame featuring that sentiment.  I knew the beautiful stitched frame from the Stitched Labels set would make a great focal image.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Service Project

The background for each of the frames will be a little different because I used the the beautiful papers in the Garden Impressions DSP stack.  This helped to bring some color to the project.  Then I knew I wanted to accentuate the focal image.  The beautiful large flourish from the Flourish Thinlets set was perfect. That is one of my all time favorite sets and I use it all the time.  I also cut the frame accent piece using the same set.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Service Project

To make it a little easier for our friends to adhere those intricate pieces, I backed the cardstock with our Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets.  That way, it’s just like a sticker.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Service Project

Everyone there loves flowers and little bling.  So, I broke out my new Four-Petal Flower Punch and my Leaf Punch to start creating flowers from the Garden Impressions DSP.  The leaves, punched from Shaded Spruce CS, needed some texture, so running them through the Big Shot with the Petal Burst Embossing Folder did the trick.  The flower center was cut from the die from the Springtime Impressions set.  And of course, I had to add some “diamonds” as the ladies at the home call it.

Would you like to create these with some friends at your local nursing home?  I sure hope so.  Just in case, here is an easy how-to video to help you out.  If you decide to do this, I would love to hear about your visit.

Here’s how the magic happens.

  • Inside Frame – Night of Navy CS – 7″ x 5″, cut the center out using the cardboard template that comes inside the purchased frame.
  • DSP – Garden Impressions – 6″ x 4 1/4″
  • Sentiment – Whisper White CS – 3 3/4″ x 3 1/4″, cut with the die from the Stitched Labels Framelits.  Stamp the sentiment in Night of Navy Ink.  I did use my Stamparatus to do this step, since we had to prep 20 kits.
  • Fourish – Blushing Bride CS – 4 3/4″ x 3″, back the cardstock with the multipurpose adhesive sheets, cut with the die from the Flourish Thinlits set.
  • Heart – Blushing Bride CS – use a scrap – cut the small stitched heart from the die in the Stitched Labels Framelits set.
  • Frame Accent – Melon Mambo CS – 5 1/4″ x 1″, back the cardstock with the multipurpose adhesive sheets, cut with the die from the Flourish Thinlits set.
  • Flowers – Garden Impressions DSP – punch four images with the Four-Petal Flower Punch.
  • Leaves -Shaded Spruce CS – punch four images with the Leaf Punch and run them through the Big Shot with the Petal Burst embossing folder.
  • Flower Centers – Blushing Bride CS – use scraps to cut two of the small flower images with the die from the Springtime Impressions set.

Birthday Gift Bag

Birthday Gift Bag

Who doesn’t need birthday wrapping supplies?  And with all the beautiful papers we have to choose from, decorating your own birthday gift bag is a snap.  Just pick up some plain white bags at your local Dollar Tree, break out that Broadway Bound Specialty DSP and create along with me.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Birthday Gift Bag, Stampin' Up!

Oh my gosh, won’t your family and friends be impressed when you show up to the party with your gift all decked out in this bag?  I sure think so.  The inspiration for this one came from our beautiful Broadway Bound Specialty DSP.  That paper is perfect for everything birthday; gift bags, scrapbook pages, cards, treats and the list goes on and on.  My hostess, Joan, requested a birthday gift bag featuring the color combo, Lovely Lipstick, Basic Black and Lemon Lime Twist.  Did I deliver?

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Birthday Gift Bag, Stampin' Up!

And what could be better than creating your own bow and tag to match the bag?  After I teach you how to do this quick and easy bow, you’ll never have to buy another one.  What could be easier than to cut out that Happy Birthday title using our Happy Birthday Thinlit Die and adhering to a piece of Whisper White CS.  This one was embossed with the Oh My Stars Embossing Folder.  Cute, right?

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Birthday Gift Bag, Stampin' Up!

Stampin’ Up! truly makes it easy with all the coordinating products.  I created my own background paper using a sheet of Lovely Lipstick CS, Lovely Lipstick ink and the Swirly Frames stamp set.  Remember, you can always use stamps in a new and different way.

Susan Levasseur, WOW NOLA Creations, Birthday Gift Bag, Stampin' Up!

The cute little birthday horns were created with the Picture Perfect Birthday set.  That one is a must-have.  So many elements you can use to dress up any project.  I did create the party hat template myself. But guys, it’s a triangle, that’s it.  The base of the hat is 2 3/4″ and the height is 4 3/4″. After cutting it and adhering a small strip of Lemon Lime Twist CS to the bottom, I ran it through the Big Shot with the Polka Dot Basics Embossing Folder.

Let me show you how quick and easy it is to create this sweet birthday bag.

Here’s how the magic happens.

  • Large Mat – Basic Black CS 7″ x 9″
  • Stamped Mat – Lovely Lipstick CS 6 3/4″ x 8 3/4″
  • Title – Basic Black CS 2″ x 6 1/4″; Whisper White CS  6″ x 1 3/4″ run through the Big Shot with the Oh My Stars Embossing Folder; Lemon Lime Twist CS 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″, back with multipurpose adhesive sheets and cut the image with the Happy Birthday Thinlits die.
  • Focal Image – Lemon Lime Twist CS 4″ x 5″; Broadway Bound DSP 3 3/4″ x 4 3/4″ and Whisper White CS, cut two at 1″ x 6″, then cut the image with the die from Seasonal Layers.
  • Party Hat – Lovely Lipstick CS 3″ x 4 3/4″ – create a template from scrap CS, the base is 2 3/4″ and the height is 4 3/4″.  Trace the template onto the Lovely Lipstick CS and trim out. Lemon Lime Twist CS 1/2″ x 3 1/2″.  Adhere the strip to the hat, trim as needed.  Run the hat through the Big Shot with the Polka Dot Basics Embossing Folder.
  • Sentiment on Hat – Basic Black CS 2 3/4″ x 1 1/4″ and Whisper White CS 2 1/2 x 1 3/4″, stamp the sentiment from Picture Perfect Birthday in Lovely Lipstick and cut both pieces with the Layering Ovals die.
  • Party Horns – Whisper White CS – 2″ x 5 1/2″.  Using the stamps from Picture Perfect Birthday stamps as follows: two striped bases, one in Lovely Lipstick and one in Lemon Lime Twist. One polka dot base in Lemon Lime Twist.  Two fringes in Lovely Lipstick and one Lemon Lime Twist. Two horns in Lemon Lime Twist and one Lovely Lipstick. Fussy cut all images and construct the horns.
  • Tag – Lemon Lime Twist CS 2″ x 4″, punch one end with the Tag Topper Punch. Lovely Lipstick CS 1 3/4″ x 3 1/4″, Broadway Bound DSP 1 1/2″ x 3″.
  • Tag Sentiment – Basic Black CS 2 1/4″ x 1 1/4″ and Whisper White CS 2 1/4″ x 1 1/4″, stamp the sentiment from Cake Soiree in Lovely Lipstick.  Cut out both images with the Layering Ovals dies.
  • Bow – Broadway Bound DSP, six @ 4″ x 3/4″ and six @ 3 1/2″ x 3/4″ and one @ 3 1/2″ x 1″.  Punch one 2 1/4″ circle from Lovely Lipstick CS for the base of the bow.
